June 3, 2015: Prep Day at AMS

The original plan for today was to register at the National Park Service, finish up packing, and then fly out to the glacier in the afternoon.  Unfortunately the weather on the Kahiltna was not so accommodating and we were not able to fly out due to storms and low visibility.  The guides gave us a refresher on glacier travel and crevasse rescue basics.  Zach had taken a mountaineering course with AMS, and Marcus was on a West Buttress trip with them last year, so they had some familiarity with their rescue systems.  It was good for me to get an overview since each guide service has their own experiences and preferences.  All of our packs were ready to go and we estimated about 147 lbs/person, once on the mountain.  We were planning to cover glacier travel basics tomorrow, so we didn't really lose any schedule.  AMS is one of the only guide companies with headquarters in Talkeetna, so they were able to put us up in the tents behind their main building.  At least we got to sleep outside:)
